What is Web 3.0 and how does it differ from Web 2.0

A common word used for World Wide Web (WWW) is “web”. It’s simply known as a group of web pages stored on a server. These web pages can be accessed by a web browser. The web has faced interesting evolution from the time of its release to now. Over the years, the World Wide Web has experienced multiple changes, and it continues to develop today. Blockchain technology and security technology are becoming increasingly popular, and there’s a need to compare the previous generations with what’s ahead in Web 3.0. Let’s dive into today’s topic (what is web 3.0 and how does it differ from web 2.0).

Web 1.0

It was Tim Berners-Lee who defined the first generation of the internet in 1989. Web 1.0 was a basic page that allowed users to access information and hyperlinks. Web browsers made it easy for ordinary users to view web pages when the Internet was invented. Also, NCSA Mosaic, released in 1993, was the first modern browser. This was one of the first web projects jointly developed by Marc Andreessen. Who then created Netscape, one of the most successful first-generation web companies

During the early days of Web 1.0, ads were banned from emerging on websites while surfing the internet. Ofoto was also an online photo-sharing and printing platform in Web 1.0. Meanwhile, users could share, view, print, and share pictures online.

A website that uses Web 1.0 relies on the content delivery network (CDN) to show information on it. An individual can make their website with it. Also, users pay according to the number of pages they view. The portal does have directories that users can use for retrieving particular information. Around, 1991 to 2004 was the Web 1.0 era.

Web pages of the first generation were largely static, with little or no video content. Also, their layout was similar to what was used to format printed pages. Around 2004, Web 2.0, the second generation of the internet, changed everything.

Web 2.0

Internet 2.0 is the next generation of interoperable services. Users have the chance to produce independent content and to exchange it with other site users, instead of simply consuming it earlier. Interactivity is one of the new features of Web 2.0. The popularity of blogging helped social networks such as MySpace, Facebook, and Friendster come into presence.

The web has experienced a change from its early bases to Web 2.0, which is a result of several technologies. An example of this technology is Ajax (Asynchronous Javascript and XML). Google Maps was the first web application to popularize Ajax, changing the web forever. Ajax allows Google Maps to change a flat image into a zoomable, scrollable, and manipulatable one. Web 2.0 also has plenty of use of CSS (Cascading Style Sheets). In the early days of the web, pages were formatted with tables, which limited developer control.

The popularity and power of CSS in the early 2000s led to more complex design forms on the web, changing the way it looked forever.

Surprisingly, the third generation of Internet services based on decentralization aims to remove the middleman who controls everything and everyone. Also, Web 3.0 manages the trust issues that were present with Web 2.0 by using encryption and distributed ledger technology. Anyway, decentralized Web 3.0 is more than security. It is also about better effective relations thanks to artificial intelligence.

Also, Tim Berners-Lee, the inventor of the World Wide Web, originally called it the Semantic Web. Planning was to make the Internet more autonomous, intelligent, and open.

Main Features of Web 3.0

Artificial Intelligence

In Web 3.0, computers can determine information like humans to provide faster and more suitable results by combining data from this capability with natural language processing. As a result, users can get information faster and more efficiently.

3D Graphics

Web 3.0 has many websites and services that make use of three-dimensional graphics. We will use 3D graphics in museum guides, computer games, online shopping, and geospatial applications, among others.

Connectivity

With Web 3.0, semantic metadata allows information to be more connected. As a result, all available information will be leverage and the user experience is enhance.

Semantic Web

Indeed, Semantic Webs will be the next evolution of the Web. By studying words rather than keywords or numbers, the semantic web improves web technologies to create, share, and connect content.

Ubiquity

Access to content is possible through multiple applications. Connection of every device to the Internet will be make sure, and services are available everywhere.

DLT

DLT allows us to have a virtually unhackable database from which one can have value to their content and things they can own virtually. Also, this is the technology that enables a trustless society by the integration of smart contracts that are based on data from the DLT and do not require a third party to guarantee the contract. Indeed, this is a powerful tool that can make the world a better place and generate more opportunities for everyone on the internet.
